NETWORK FIELD ENGINEER

ROLE
The Briars Group is a specialist outsourcing organisation, serving both UK and overseas organisations. Employing around 35 staff, we specialise in IT; accounting, payroll; tax and HR. We are one of the UK’s longest established IT support companies.

This role is within the company’s IT division, which serves both the Briars’ organisation and clients. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the troubleshooting and resolution of server and network hardware and software. The role will combine installation and support activities at client sites with telephone technical support. The successful candidate will possess a good knowledge of Windows server and PC/laptop systems, networking technologies and a methodical and structured approach to problem solving.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identification and resolution of hardware and software faults on Windows server systems and network peripherals
  • First and second level telephone technical support on Windows server and PC operating systems and hardware
  • Testing and repair of server hardware and network peripherals
  • Installation and configuration of Windows sever operating systems and system software
  • Identification and resolution of faults on broadband hardware and software
  • Identification and resolution of faults on wired and wireless networking hardware

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 3 years network support experience
  • A previous customer facing or customer support role is essential
  • A clean driving licence is essential.
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths
  • Degree level qualification preferred.
  • MCSE qualifications preferred

    The ability to install, configure and troubleshoot:
  • Server hardware(RAID arrays, tape devices, network adapters, UPS)
  • Windows Server 2003/2008 (inc. SBS versions) and Exchange Server 2003/2007
  • Network hardware (switches, routers, firewalls including wireless devices)
  • Server anti-virus software (McAfee, ESET)
  • Backup software (Symantec Backup Exec)
  • TCP/IP networking and LAN and WAN technologies

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Organised, accurate with attention to detail
  • Ability to work constantly to tight deadlines and with changing priorities
  • Must be a team player and able to work on own initiative
